The Israeli Wedding

Your guide to getting married in Israel

Hair and Makeup

Hair & Makeup

Many brides choose to get their hair and makeup professionally done on their wedding day. However, if you feel comfortable styling your hair and doing your makeup yourself, or prefer not to wear any makeup at all, you should not feel pressure to be anything but yourself – your happiness will shine through on your wedding day, whether you’re professionally glammed up, DIY, or going au natural.

Please note: before booking your hair and makeup artists, make sure to do a test run with them. This will most likely not be complimentary – there’s a huge range in terms of pricing, but you can expect each to cost you between 200 – 400 shekels for the trial.

The artists may agree to deduct the cost of the test run from the price of their day-of services. Communication is key with your hair and makeup artists – make sure to clearly explain the look that you want, and bring illustrative photos if possible.

Hair & Makeup – A Package Deal

It’s fairly common to come across deals for both hair and makeup together, either with one artist or two who work together as partners. The cheapest deal that I’ve ever encountered was 1000 shekels for hair and makeup combined – the average price seems to be between 1200 – 2000 shekels.

Personally, I believe that if you go this route you should make sure that you will be working with separate hair and makeup artists, not one person who’s attempting to “do it all” – while I’m sure talented people who do both hair and makeup exist, I feel it’s a safer choice to have two different professionals.

If you choose to combine your hair and makeup, your glam team will come to wherever you are getting ready on the day of the wedding. I would make sure to have at least 4 hours between when they are set to arrive and when you need to be at the wedding venue.

N&Y-82

Hair

The price of bridal hairstyles varies wildly. If you choose to head over to the hair salon in person, the price is significantly lower than if your hair stylist makes a house call – typically a hair stylist coming to you will never cost less than 700 shekels.

The price you’ll pay depends on the caliber of the salon, if you’re working with a well-known or celebrity stylist, and if you want extras. For example, if you want temporary clip-in hair extensions, this will significantly increase the price – probably by at least 1000 shekels.

If you are getting a simple blowout, you should not pay more than 200 shekels. An elegant updo or braid style can run between 500 – 1000 shekels (and up.)

Makeup

Just like bridal hairstyles, wedding makeup prices range from the lower to higher-end – you can expect to pay between 500 – 1300 shekels. Your wedding day makeup session will take at least an hour and a half and may last two hours or longer.

The reason? Depending on your dress, the makeup artist will likely apply makeup to your body (shoulders, collarbone, neck, etc.) If you have tattoos that you’d like to cover up for the evening, this will add a significant amount of time to the process – make sure to ask your makeup artist if they have experience in tattoo cover ups.
