WHO CAN GET MARRIED IN ISRAEL?
Let’s start with the basics. The Rabbinute is the rabbinical authority for Judaism in Israel, and oversees and manages many important institutions in the country.
Rabbinical Courts, Jewish marriage, Jewish divorce, Kosher laws and Kosher certification, and much more are all under the authority of the Rabbinute.
Jews wishing to get married in Israel must go through the Rabbinute, which has local offices in every municipality in the country.
The Rabbinute will marry:
• A Jewish man and Jewish woman, both of whom must be single (or have proof that they are divorced or widowed.)

IS THERE CIVIL MARRIAGE IN ISRAEL?
Short answer – kind of. As of September 2025, there is no civil marriage option in Israel. But if you can’t or don’t want to get married through the Rabbinute, there are loopholes and alternatives. You can get married via Zoom by an officiant in Utah, obtain an American marriage certificate, and use that document to register your marriage in Israel – without leaving the comfort of your own home.

CAN I HAVE A REFORM JEWISH WEDDING IN ISRAEL? CAN I HAVE A CONSERVATIVE JEWISH WEDDING IN ISRAEL?
Yes! You can definitely have a Reform or Conservative Jewish wedding in Israel, officiated by the appropriate rabbi. It just won’t officially “count” in the eyes of the Israeli government.

HOW DO I FIND A WEDDING DRESS IN ISRAEL?
Finding your wedding dress is a high pressure part of the wedding planning process, no matter where you live. Personally, I had ideas about how I would find my wedding dress in Israel, based on what I would have done in my hometown.
I felt really lost when I realized that my method didn’t work in Israel. For example, shopping for a wedding dress in many cities in the world means heading to a huge bridal boutique where there are hundreds of dresses by a wide variety of designers in different styles at your disposal.
This is simply not the way it works in Israel.

Realistically, the bare minimum you can expect to spend on your dress is 2000 shekels. Based on informal polling of friends, I’d say the average that brides spend on their wedding dress is 5000 – 6000 shekels.
